Post-Baby Wardrobe

With literally days (hopefully) to go until our little girl arrives I treated myself to a little online shopping spree last week. I needed to spruce up my post-baby wardrobe and get myself excited and motivated to get back to where I was before being pregnant.

Today my goodies arrived! I get so happy when my online shopping orders come in the mail. I love to open everything and put all the new clothes on hangers and rearrange my closet. It also encourages me to purge some old clothes that I don't wear in order to free up some space for my new ones.

Here are some of the pieces I scored.

And of course some pretty jewels. I find myself wearing the same jewelry all the time so I figured a few new fun statement pieces will inspire me to mix it up a bit.

(This isn't the exact necklace, but I can't find it online.
You can see the one I actually got in the pictures below.)

I also got one more necklace but can't find it on the website anymore.

As soon as I opened the F21 package I couldn't wait to purge some of my old jewelry and replace it with my pretty new gems.

Must Have: Boyfriend Watch

For several months now (more like a year actually) I've been on the hunt for the perfect 'boyfriend watch' - the big, oversized watch that looks like one you snagged from your hubby's valet.  I've never really been a watch person, but this trend has got me reconsidering. I love the idea of a layering a big chunky gold watch with tons of thin bracelets, or even just wearing it alone as a statement piece.

Here are a few that have caught my eye:

Michael Kors MK5437 - Macys, $275.00

Coach Boyfriend Bracelet Watch - Macys, $348.00

Feminine Contemporary Watch - Guess, $135.00

Fossil Boyfriend Watch - Piperlime, $125.00

These watches can get pretty pricey, but there are a few wallet-friendly versions available.

Gold Boyfriend Watch - Shock Boutique, $30.00

For a more feminine take on the boyfriend watch, many also come in this pretty rose-gold finish.

Crawford Boyfriend Watch - Amazon, $16.00

Fossil Riley Watch - Amazon, $109.95

Other options include black or brown bands in place of the gold metal, like this one from Urban Outfitters.

Classic Menswear Watch, Urban Outfitters, $25.00

Now to just decide on one...

Things I'm Digging: Fishtail Braids

Pregnancy hormones and prenatal vitamins have kindly graced me with ever-growing locks. My hair is probably the longest it has been in some time. I officially have mermaid hair! (That's what I call the length when your hair is long enough to cover your boobs.) While I don't want to cut it, summer is coming quickly and I need to find an easy solution to the heat.

Enter the fishtail braid.

source unknown

Having been born with stringy, stick straight hair, I have always relied on braids to add the thickness and texture I've craved to my locks. When I was in grade school I was the girl who always french braided every one's hair for them. I've worn some form of braids in my hair for years now. Whether is be a low braided pony tail, a thick braid of my bangs, or a few simple tiny braids in the side of my head. Fishtail braids have always caught my eye as being one of the prettiest, simplest looking hairstyles, and it wasn't until last summer that I finally taught myself how to do them.

I prefer a messy tousled braid over the perfect, tightly braided version.

Here are some other great, bold braids that are hot this season if the side-pony fishtail doesn't work for you:

I see myself sporting lots of braids this summer.

Throwing in the Towel

Well, I finally sucked it up and went to the mall and bought a few new items of clothing. My plan was to last as long as I could with the clothes in my closet and resort to leggings once my belly band no longer allowed me to squeeze into my jeans. Ideally, once that happened the warm spring weather would kick in and I could just wear all my dresses. What I did not think through is that most of the dresses I own are seamed at the waist and not flowy or empire waisted like I now need.

While I did "throw in the towel" and buy some new clothes, I still have refused to purchase anything from a maternity store. This is for two reasons. First, they are pretty expensive! I have no idea what size I'll be next week, much less for the remaining 11 so I hesitate to spend the money on something I may only wear once or twice. Secondly, I honestly haven't found any maternity clothes I like. I'm pretty picky about my clothes, especially because I have such a small frame to begin with that I despise most of the maternity clothes available and how they look on me.

The weather has been gorgeous lately and so I pulled out an old favorite maxi dress I purchased from Urban Outfitters about three years ago and wore it to work with a white crochet vest.

I was so comfortable all day and the flowy high waisted material perfectly suited my every-growing belly.

THank goodness maxi dresses are back for 2011!! Lots of stores are carrying them now and they have quickly become my maternity saviour.

Hubby gave me one for Valentine's Day that it was finally warm enough to wear on Easter.
(Sidenote: My belly is much bigger in person than it look in this pic!)

After work that day I hit up H&M at my mall and scored three more great maxis for a total of $60.
- a racerback black and white striped maxi
- a turquoise maxi with a black lace cutup on the upper back
- a strapless floral maxi

I was looking on their website to snag a few pictures of the dresses I bought so I could share, however none of them are there. I haven't decided if I'm comfortable enough yet to take pictures of myself in them to post like many of the fashion blogs I follow, but maybe I'll muster the courage and just do it.

What I did find on their website was that H&M has a Mama maternity line!
The selection looks pretty limited so far, but I see potential for some good basic tanks as well as shorts (which I've been hoping to be able to wear).

Tank - $7.95

Dress - $34.95

Dress - $24.95

Shorts - $24.95

Pants - $24.95

Top - $19.95

The best part is that the prices are normal! I'm not sure yet if any of these are available in any of the stores since I wasn't really looking for maternity clothes when I was there. I will say that I have been able to score a few non-maternity items at H&M over the past few months that have worked so far.

Well, we are off to NY for the night for a wedding in Staten Island. I'll be back to fill you in on our next project in the living room that involves removing the bookcase. And maybe snap a few pictures of my new maxi finds for any mommy-to-be's out there looking for some fresh spring clothes.

Grandmother's Jewels

As promised, a look through some of the gorgeous vintage jewelry passed onto me by my grandmother (known by her grandkids as "Beebah").

The above necklace actually belonged to Jordan's grandmother, not mine.
His aunt gave it to me as a gift last Christmas.

I wear this gold bracelet the most. It was one of the first pieces my grandmother gave to me. If you look carefully you can see something written on the bag.

"1907 Gold Bracelet"

There is also an inscription inside that says "Pat Oct. 22 07"

My heart broke when I came home from work after wearing this one day and found one of the roses missing. Part of me hopes I can somehow fix it.

Most of the necklace and bracelet sets I have come with a matching set of clip-on earrings.
To this day Beebah has never had her ears pierced.
